How to undo an account lock date
Quick Answer
Remove the Account lock date from the account's options tab.
Overview
The lock date for your accounts is an important feature for reconciling transactions and tracking your accounts.
Occasionally, however, you may need to process or modify a transaction dated prior to its account's lock date, which will produce the below error:
The transaction date (date) is before the Account lock date for the account (account code).
For example, if a prepayment exists for a locked period, you will need to unlock the relevant account to process the order. The following process will allow you to unlock the account temporarily.
Process
- Navigate to the Accounts form (General ledger > Accounts…) and fetch the Account code listed in the error message.
- Navigate to the Options tab and select Edit.
- Make note of the current Account lock date.
- Clear the Account lock date field, and select Update.
- Process or modify the desired transaction.
- After performing your required transactions, re-edit the account and re-enter the Account lock date.
- Select Update to relock the account.
